Set up a new account

In Gmail we set accounts up as IMAP. If you have used POP3 so far, set the account up as IMAP here – or call us.

  1. 1

Open Gmail. Tap the menu ≡ at the top left, scroll all the way down and tap “Settings”.

“Username” must show your full email address. In the field “Server” Gmail has entered only the part of your address after the @ – replace it with imap.mailprotect.be. Tap “Next”.

“Require signin” stays switched on, and “Username” again shows your full email address. Replace what is in the field “SMTP server” with smtp-auth.mailprotect.be and tap “Next”. Gmail chooses port and encryption itself (port 465 with SSL/TLS) – that is correct.

    If it does not work

    • The username must be the full email address, for incoming and for outgoing mail.
    • Password rejected? Check upper and lower case. It is your mailbox password – when switching servers, the same one as before.
    • Sending does not work? Try port 587 with STARTTLS for the outgoing server.
    • A certificate warning almost always means a typing error in the server name.
