CUPERTINO, Calif. -- January 8, 1996 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced Suitcase 3.0, the most advanced solution available for total font management. Suitcase 3.0 provides exclusive, automated features that make it easier than ever to effectively manage and organize fonts. New features include a completely redesigned drag-and-drop interface, the ability to link fonts to specific applications, automatic resolution of font conflicts, QuickDraw GX, AppleScript and AppleGuide support, and complete Power Macintosh native technology.
Suitcase has a long history as one of the most widely used Macintosh utility programs. With great popularity and strong name recognition, Suitcase has received accolades from end users and press alike, and has consistently been a member of best-seller lists for years. The first version of Suitcase was developed in 1987 to expand the capabilities of the Macintosh operating system. As did subsequent versions, Suitcase 3.0 continues to provide superior font management technology to extend these capabilities. Suitcase is the must-have utility for any Macintosh desktop publishing professional or home computer user who requires an excellent method for organizing and accessing their fonts.

NATIVE FOR POWER MACINTOSH
Suitcase 3.0 is the only fully Power Macintosh native
font management tool available. Suitcase has been completely
redesigned in native code to enable users to manage
fonts with optimum speed and performance. With Power
Macintosh native code, Suitcase now provides even more
power to organize and conveniently access a multitude
of fonts.
The new Suitcase 3.0 is also compatible with all popular font formats, including new support for QuickDraw GX, freeing users to take advantage of the latest font technology. Suitcase is compatible with all major desktop publishing applications including QuarkXpress, Adobe PageMaker, FreeHand, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Type Manager and more.
NEW INTERFACE IS EASIER-TO-USE, INCORPORATES DRAG AND
DROP
Suitcase's interface is new and improved -- it's completely
redesigned with drag-and-drop capability for easily
and intuitively managing fonts. Suitcase users can
create and build font sets and groups, or move items
between sets quickly and easily by using drag-and-drop.
Users can even open entire folders of fonts simply
by dragging and dropping onto the Suitcase icon.
AUTOMATE MANAGEMENT WITH APPLESCRIPT & APPLICATION
LINKING
Suitcase 3.0 is the only font management utility which
provides the ability to link fonts to applications
so fonts open automatically as needed. Suitcase users
can save the time and hassle of opening fonts manually
by defining groups of fonts to be loaded automatically
each time specific applications are launched. For added
convenience, Suitcase 3.0 also allows users to create
custom AppleScripts that automate font management tasks.
For example, users can create AppleScripts which automatically
open and close font sets for particular projects.
AUTOMATIC FONT CONFLICT RESOLUTION
The new Suitcase 3.0 automatically detects and resolves
conflicts between fonts that use the same ID number,
putting an end to font conflicts. As new fonts are
loaded into the system, Suitcase detects font conflicts
and resolves them on the fly, preventing documents
from printing incorrectly or displaying incorrectly
on screen. Suitcase also exports and imports files
of font IDs, to avoid conflicts when using another
user's fonts.
SELECT FONTS EASILY WITH WYSIWYG FONT DISPLAY
Suitcase modifies application font menus to display
fonts in their own typefaces. The WYSIWYG display saves
users the time usually spent scrolling through cumbersome
font menus, making font selection quick and easy. Suitcase
also provides a font viewing window which allows users
to easily and instantly preview fonts in any size and
style with modifiable sample text.
SAVE VALUABLE DISK SPACE WITH FONT COMPRESSION
With Suitcase, users can compress memory-intensive font
resources to maximize disk space, enhance productivity
and manage system memory more efficiently. Suitcase
compresses fonts and sounds up to 60 percent and automatically
decompresses them when needed. Suitcase can compress
and expand sets, font files, font suitcases, and sound
files.
ON-LINE APPLE GUIDE HELP AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT
The new Suitcase 3.0 provides expert user assistance
with exclusive AppleGuide help. The on- line Suitcase
Guides interactively assist users through all aspects
of managing fonts with Suitcase. This help system also
provides complete reference information and tutoria
programs to actively show users how to process and
complete tasks.
Users can also rely on Symantec's expert technical team for assistance. Suitcase is the only font management utility that provides unlimited free online technical support on America Online (at keyword: SYMANTEC) and CompuServe (at keyword: GO SYMANTEC). Suitcase also offers users 90 days of free technical support by phone. Additional technical support services include the Symantec BBS (541/984-5366, at 300, 1200, and 2400 baud, and 541/ 484-6669 at 9600 and 14400 baud) and the Symantec FaxBack service at 800/554-4403 or 541/984-2490.
POWER MACINTOSH UTILITIES FROM THE PETER NORTON GROUP
Suitcase 3.0 is one of a set of comprehensive utilities
designed by the Peter Norton Group to support the Power
Macintosh platform. Also available are Norton Utilities
for Macintosh 3.2, Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh
(SAM) 4.0 and SAM Administrator 4.0, Norton DiskLock
4.0, Norton DiskDoubler Pro 1.1, and MacTools Pro 4.0.
These products have been enhanced to take full advantage
of the faster performance available on the Power Macintosh
and to provide a host of essential features for data
protection, disk repair, data recovery, virus protection
and compression. All current Norton Macintosh products
continue to support 68K-based Macintosh systems.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Suitcase 3.0, shipping the end of the first quarter
of 1996, will be available at an estimated street price
of $69.95. Upgrades to registered Suitcase users will
be available for $39.95. Suitcase 3.0 runs on a Macintosh
or Power Macintosh and requires System 7.1 or higher
and four megabytes of RAM are recommended. Suitcase
supports QuickDraw GX and AppleScript, and is compatible
with QuarkXpress, Adobe PageMaker, FreeHand, Photoshop,
Illustrator, Adobe Type Manager and more.
