ATTO Technology's Dual-Ported UltraSCSI SiliconDisk II Solid-State Drive delivers 80 MB/sec transfer rates
Macworld Spring '96, ATTO Technology ... ATTO Technology, the SCSI leader for Macintosh, has introduced the SiliconDisk II family of UltraSCSI solid-state disks-a dramatic upgrade to the company's existing SiliconDisk PRO family. The new SiliconDisk II will significantly increase the speed with which Prepress professionals can work with large images by offering transfer rates to 80 MB/sec with dual FAST/WIDE UltraSCSI ports. The SiliconDisk II delivers the industry's fastest access time of 0.02 milliseconds, and now features increased storage capacity of up to 2.4 GB. Combined with plug and play compatibility to all SCSI based platforms, the SiliconDisk II can maximize system performance while protecting investments in existing hardware and software.
"Using the SiliconDisk II to accelerate image processing in applications such as Adobe Photoshop and QuarkXpress means increased productivity," according to Timothy Klein, ATTO's president and CEO. "The faster users can work with today's high-resolution images, the more creative they can be."
ATTO's SiliconDisk II delivers ultra-high performance by replacing the slow mechanical action of conventional drives with an array of DRAM memory-providing lightning fast data transfer and access times to a users most important data. In addition, solid-state dependability eliminates the costly down-time and data loss associated with mechanical disk failure.
The SiliconDisk II functions the same as a conventional hard drive and is transparent to the system-requiring no custom drivers, software rewrites, or special utilities. By offering full SCSI-3 compatibility, SiliconDisk II can be integrated into a variety of SCSI based systems including Apple, IBM, Sun, DEC, and HP. This plug and play integration, in addition to both desktop and standard 5.25" OEM chassis configurations, makes the SiliconDisk II a snap to upgrade any SCSI based platform.
UltraSCSI is a subset of the SCSI-3 standard. UltraSCSI effectively increases the synchronous transfer rates of FAST SCSI-2 from 10 MB/sec. to 20 MB/sec. and WIDE SCSI-2 from 20 MB/sec. to 40 MB/sec. UltraSCSI accomplishes this by doubling the clock speed on the 8- or 16-bit data path.
"The addition of the SiliconDisk II is the latest example of how ATTO Technology strives to maintain its leadership in SCSI technology for the Macintosh market," said Robert Girardi, ATTO's Macintosh marketing product manager. "ATTO expects to announce even more functionality to its UltraSCSI line of products early in 1996."
