ATTO's Line of ExpressPCI UltraSCSI Accelerators Bring
80 MB/sec. Transfer Rates to the Desktop
Macworld Spring '96, ATTO TechnolQgy ... ATTO Technology announced it has enhanced its line of ExpressPCI SCS1-3 accelerators by integrating the next generation UltraSCSI interface. The addition of UltraSCSI support allows ExpressPCI to boost data transfer rates up to 80 MB/sec.-allowing Digital Video, Imaging, Multimedia, and Real-Time applications to attain the highest level of performance possible. This development reinforces ATTO's prominence as the SCSI performance leader for Macintosh.
The ExpressPCI UltraSCSI family is composed of four RlSC-based FAST/WIDE (16-bit) UltraSCSI accelerators. The ExpressPCI Single-Channel (SC-U) and ExpressPCI Single-Channel Differential (SCd-U) models can deliver up to 40 MB/sec. of data transfers. ATTO's ExpressPCI Multi-Channel (MC-U) and ExpressPCI Multi-Channel Differential (MCd-U) are multi-channel UltraSCSI accelerators capable of delivering 80 MB/sec. of combined data transfers-setting a new standard in high-performance. In addition, ExpressPCI (MC-U) is the only SCSI accelerator that supports two FAST/WIDE UltraSCSI buses in a single PCI slot.
"ATTO is committed to providing the fastest PCI performance for Macintosh," said Timothy Klein, ATTO president and CEO. "We've been providing Mac users with SCSI performance solutions for nearly a decade. Our 80 MB per second UltraSCSI accelerator is another demonstration of our commitment to the Macintosh community."UltraSCSI is a subset of the SCS1-3 standard and is slated for high-performance drives from major drive vendors in the first quarter of 1996. UltraSCSI effectively increases the synchronous transfer rates of FAST SCS1-2 from 10 MB/sec. to 20 MB/sec. and WIDE SCS1-2 from 20 MB/sec. to 40 MB/sec. UltraSCSI accomplishes this by doubling the clock speed on the 8- or 16-bit data path.
ExpressPCI UltraSCSI can support up to 8 SCSI Bus IDs with 3.0 meter cable lengths or 16 SCSI Bus IDs with 1.5 meter cable lengths. This device support will allow video professionals to take advantage of advanced multi-stream video systems.
ATTO's RAlD-ready ExpressPCI UltraSCSI card contains the same features as ATTO's award-winning family of ExpressPCI SCS1-3 accelerators. This includes an on-board RISC processor to relieve the system's CPU from managing SCS1-3 protocol, command processing, disconnect /reconnect, and other SCSI related overhead.
Compatible with all existing SCSI devices and compatible with new UltraSCSI devices, ExpressPCI UltraSCSl's advanced bus management features allow the most disk intensive applications to get the data they need quickly. Advanced bus management features include Multi-threaded 1/0, Scatter/Gather, and Write Posting Support.
Based in Amherst, New York, ATTO Technology is a manufacturer of SCSI acceleration devices, and other computer enhancement products for the Macintosh, workstation, minicomputer, and personal computer environments. ATTO distributes its products worldwide through Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Value Added Resellers (VARs), System Integrators, Computer Dealers, and direct to Corporate Users.
